In “Meg 2: The Trench,” Jason Statham encounters not just one or two, but three prehistoric sharks that dwell in the deep sea, as well as a large creature with multiple tentacles, according to the movie’s official trailer. The original film, “The Meg,” which earned $530 million worldwide in 2018, featured a team of scientists in a submarine that was attacked by a Megalodon, a species of enormous shark believed to be extinct. Warner Bros. has now unveiled the sequel with a trailer ahead of its Aug. 4 release.
In the latest footage, Statham joins forces with Wu Jing, a renowned Chinese actor who has featured in popular films like “The Wandering Earth,” “Wolf Warrior,” and “The Battle at Lake Changjin.” Together, they embark on an underwater expedition to explore new species, followed by a showdown with three sharks at a tourist attraction on the surface of the sea. Unfortunately, numerous people fall prey to the predators.
Statham, Wiu, Cliff Curtis, Sienna Guillory, Skyler Samuels, Page Kennedy, Shuya Sophia Cai, and Sergio Peris-Mencheta are set to star in “Meg 2.” Li Bingbing, who starred alongside Statham in “The Meg,” will not appear in the sequel. “The Meg” was adapted from Steve Alten’s 1997 novel “Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror” and was written by Dean Georgaris, Erich Hoeber, and Jon Hoeber, who have also written the sequel. Ben Wheatley will direct the new installment.
